Rev. Leslie E. Welk serves as the Superintendent of the Northwest Ministry Network of the Assemblies of God. He assumed this position on July 1, 2002. His love and concern for the churches and pastors of the Northwest District serves him well for this post. He has said, “I am a firm believer in the role of the local church and its God-given mandate to take the gospel to the world. The Great Commission has been a strong emphasis in my personal life and pastoral ministry. It continues to be so as we serve our Assemblies of God ministers and churches in the Northwest District. A church has no option in dealing with evangelism, outreach and growth. It must be an inherent part of the philosophy and heart of the local church, or the church risks extinction with the passing of one generation.” Les Welk served as the Assistant Superintendent from 1994-2002, with the portfolios of Home Missions and World Missions. While serving in this capacity, Brother Welk instituted the Great Commission Fund, a fund that promotes giving through offerings, gifts or wills, using the interest only for missions at home and abroad. He launched the program, “Focus Seattle” that planted five churches in five years in the Seattle area.
A passion for missions has been a part of his ministry from the beginning. As pastor of Shoreline Community Church for nearly eighteen years, he established a strong track record in support of both foreign and home missions. He will continue the portfolio of World Missions along with his responsibilities as Superintendent.
Superintendent Welk currently holds the position as Chairman of the Board of Directors for Northwest University, serves on the National Home Missions Committee, and the General Council Blue Ribbon Governance Committee. He is a member of the General Council’s General Presbytery.
Les, and his wife, Darice, have two sons and one daughter. Both sons are involved in ministry. The Welks speak at Marriage Retreats and camps. Darice is a dynamic speaker to women.
